Updated Jabber RPM and How To available
« on: May 31, 2002, 05:28:32 PM »
Changes:
This rpm fixes a bug in the Jabber.xml template. I have changed it to use the e-smith template system.

I have changed back to a single process operation for Jabber and the transports. This was because of resource issues with some lower spec machines.

I have removed the ability to have registration on or off as some Jabber Clients ignored this and allowed registration anyway.

I have added three extra scripts to the downloads file.

install.sh - installs jabber rpm and pth rpm

upgrade.sh - upgrades from a previous version. Will save all users you may have registered

uninstall.sh - self explanatory

I can connect and everything seems fine, but for some reason the service dies after like approx 15 minutes, and I have to restart jabber.

Is there a setting somewhere to tell it not die?

btw, this rpm is great, keep up the good work.  thanks

James,

Try connecting to your server manager via http://local_ip_address:980/server-manager and try again. Let me know the results.

Cheers,

Len,

What are the specs of your server computer?. What are your resources (cpu and memory) like before installing the jabber rpm and after.?.

Hi Jon.

my specs are a k6 amd 500 mhz, with about 100 MB ram (this cpu is mainly gateway, so hardly any load)

load is 59.32 MB
pre-jabber start it was 57.43 MB

Maybe i got a corrupt rpm?  I unistalled the rpm, redownloaded it, and its been fine the past 6 hours...

once again thx for the great contrib rpm!

JON, IT DOES ALLOW ME TO MODIFY THE SERVICES THAT WAY...but why does everything else work without specifying the connection port?

Thanks for the rpm.  Works like a charm!  I have a quick question.  I am using jabber.com's client.  One of the functions is "Find Room" which gives me the error "The Jabber server reported a problem: Not Implemented".  Is this a configurable item?  Do I need to re-compile to get this feature?

Thanks for any help.

server crashes Re: Updated Jabber RPM and How To available
« Reply #11 on: July 20, 2002, 05:55:58 AM »
Len/Jon,

I experienced the same server crash twice this afternoon.  Jabber seemed to be working fine - allowing me to create and host several IM sessions both internally and thru the AIM/MSN gateways.  Then it crashed, and I was forced to stop and restart the Jabber services in order to get the Jabber server to function.

Ideas?  Things I should check on the SME/Jabber server?

Thanks,

Patrick
