Topic: ntp - synchronisation lost..

hi!

i time-sync my SME 5.1.2 by ntp from ntps1-0.uni-erlangen.de (i'm located in germany to). my log spills out

Jun 13 19:17:35 orbit ntpd[30830]: time reset 0.193652 s

messages from time to time. i should have a look into my /etc/ntp/drift file, newsgroups suggest, and if the drift is bigger then +/- 200 then there's a problem, they say. my drift is around -400 usualy.

so, what is broken, and what can i do?

Check the latency between you system and your selected NTP server, then look for better ones.  Contact your ISP, and see if they have an undocumented one --- many do.  Check to see if the gateway to your ISP is an NTP server.  Many universities host NTP servers too --- check the ones in your area.
