Computer not in Network Neighborhood?
« on: June 16, 2002, 03:57:47 AM »
Thanks to everyone that posted (and solved) on the last problem I had!
                                    ***********************
I still have one remaining issue that I can't seem to fix...
I have one box on the "outside"(192.168.0.x) of the SME server, and the rest of the boxes "inside"(192.168.1.x) VIA LAN. Even though I have the "outside" box configured to be on the same workgroup (all boxes are running under Win98se) it doesn't appear in the Network Neighborhood on any of the "inside" boxes.
Is there a fix for this? Something I'm missing inthe configuration?
Thank you for your time.
Jeffrey

It wont appear in the network neighbourhood. Netbios traffic shouldnt broadcast outside its own subnet (not too sure but i think it is blocked at the firewall any way).

I wouldnt be too keen about allowing the 98 machine any access into the lan anyway as you are running an inherrently insecure operating system as your gateway. If it gets hacked and you have open paths in to the lan, they will soon follow.

But to answer your question, you should be able to vpn into the system and treat the gateway machine as an local machine (I think).
