Raid with HPT370/372
« on: June 18, 2002, 04:04:22 AM »
Hi;

I have a brand new server and want to do hardware RAID 1. I have a highpoint-tec card that uses HPT370/372 chipset.

When trying to install SME 5.1.2 I get an error during the installation, and the installation process is aborted. I assume that the HPT370/372 driver is missing in the SME 5.1.2 image (I downloaded it from this site and burned a the CD that I'm using for the installation).

- Does anybody know how I can build an image to install SME 5.1.2 that contains the HPT370/372 driver?
- If anybody has already gone through this, and has it, then this would be even better.

Thanks for your help,

why would you put raid 1 on a server?

i think there are drivers out there you could use if you really want to do it.  just look on google for hpt370 and redhat.

Len;

The reason why I´m putting a raid 1 on a server is for integrity. The server has to support a small network, but it is critical that it is always up & running (critical infromation access and gateway functionality).

The main problem I´m facing is that the installation process e-Smith 5.1.2 is aborted and stopped even before installing linux in the server. It breaks just after asking the type of raid configuration.

As it doesn't even install linux there are no possibilities for me to add the HPT370 driver later on. That´s why I think that the only way to overcome this installation problem (while keeping the final server configuration) is by redoing the e-Smith file image and include at that point the HPT370 driver. Then burn the new CD and then install again.

Is there a way to install e-smith on top of an already insatalled Linux server?  This would be another possibility if at all possible (first install linux, then add the HPT370 driver and finally the e-Smith part).

I really don't know how to end up with a server with e-Smith 5.1.2 and a hardware HPT370 Raid 1 configuration.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Jordi,

Search these forums for 'Highpoint'. You will find what you need.
