what is changing email address ?
« on: June 25, 2002, 07:38:17 PM »
Hi,

I have e-smith 5.1.2 test machine running.  I have rav antivirus running aswell.

Current settings

primary domain : digital-sauce.co.uk
machine name :  development

qmail

set to multidrop

given pop details to isp -  get mails fine.

using ADSL which is always on.

Everything is working fine apart form when I send a mail to myself.

For some reason when I send a mail to saleem@digital-sauce.co.uk

in the  mail log file the mail reciepiant is saleem@development.digital-sauce.co.uk instead of saleem@digital-sauce.co.uk.

Why is development being added to the email addresss ?

I still get the email but it is addressed from saleem@192.168.1.210

and when I reply the mail gets bounced.

BTW I do not have the MX record pointing to the machine.  The mx record is with the isp and I cannot change it.

Am I wrong in using a proper domain for my local domain ?

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at digital-sauce.co.uk.
I tried to deliver a bounce message to this address, but the bounce bounced!

Sorry. Although I'm listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host,
it isn't in my control/locals file, so I don't treat it as local. (#5.4.6)

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at digital-sauce.co.uk.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

your control/locals file is like having to change the hosts file on your Windows box.  You should adjust that or contact your ISP to change the mx record.
