unsecure from inside LAN?
« on: July 04, 2002, 01:47:36 AM »
Hi,
I asked this question before... not really any answers. Could someone help? We have a small LAN and the users (a family run business) would like to access programs such as webmail and webchatter (a chatroom system I'm running) from within the LAN without the need for SSL. (https://) I'm running V. 5.1.2.
I know it must be able to be done... I don't have to use https:// from my machine (but, then, I know I'm logged on as ADMIN... might have something to do with it!)
Anyway, could someone please help me out? Thank you for your time on this.
Jeffrey

In Server Manager look for Other E-mail settings. At the bottom you can choose whether to have secure or non-secure webmail access.

John,
This is kind of where the problem is... I have already selected the non-secure webmail setting... and it works perfectly from OUTSIDE the LAN. From inside the LAN I'm still required to login using HTTPS://
There are a few troubles with this...
1) Each time an e-mail has sdomething in it other than text the user has to agree to an annoying message stating that the page hs both secure and non-secure information. You can see how this can get to be a real hassle if you're trying to read a lot of e-mails.
2) The Chat program that I'm running (WebChatter) doesn't like being logged into securely.

Any Idea's as to why the non-scure setting would work only from OUTSIDE the LAN? This seems really backward to me.

Thanks again,
Jeffrey
