Tape problem after power cut during backup
« on: July 05, 2002, 08:08:09 PM »
After a long power cut (so long that the power protection battery was empty, and the e-smith server 4.1.2 switched brutally off) during night tape backup (flexbackup), the tape of this day now doesn't work anymore... Is there a solution to "reformat" this tape ?

I tried :
mt -f /dev/st0 erase
but it is not enough...

My tape drive is an IDE seagate STT220000A 20Go.

I have had clients with the scsi vers of this drive turn off the power or push the tape eject button during a backup. The tape will need to be replaced. If it is from a reputable manufacturer, they will understand how this happened and send you a new one at no charge. Seagate, Sony and 3M all do this; others also, I'm sure.
