Can't see internet, LAN OK
« on: July 09, 2002, 03:58:37 AM »
My e-smith server has been running fine for months then last week I lost my internet access although my internal LAN was still functioning well.  I restarted the server and everything was fine for a couple of hours and then no internet again so I've had to restart the server whenever I want to get on the internet.

I've read through a number of postings in this group and found a few problems similar.  Tried their solutions but still no luck.  I have managed to narrow it down to running ifdown eth1 then ifup eth1 to get internet access back online though.

Looking through the logs the problem seems to occur after switching DHCP servers as shown in the following log snippet:

dhcpcd[3346]: sending DHCP_REQUEST for xxx.xxx.xxx.230 to xxx.xxx.xxx.41
dhcpcd[3346]: DHCP_NAK server response received
dhcpcd[3346]: broadcasting DHCP_REQUEST for xxx.xxx.xxx.230
dhcpcd[3346]: DHCP_ACK received from  (xxx.xxx.xxx.42)

I'm no networking or Linux expert so I'm not sure if this would cause the problem or not.

I have tried hooking a Win98 machine direct to the cable modem and left it running for a couple of days with no loss of internet.

Any ideas on what may be causing this problem and/or how to troubleshoot further?  I'm running version 5.0 w/ Update4.

Thanks,
Steve
