Expunging IMAP Folders

Expunging IMAP Folders
« on: March 19, 2001, 02:47:08 PM »
Is there an easy way (e.g. by cron) to run a regular process that will delete all IMAP mail that has been marked for deletion? I can hide deleted messages in the client (OE 5 for Mac) but can't find a way to permenantly delete these items. I'd prefer a server based solution than one that relies on users to purge deleted mail.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank got that's not in it. If there's something gone I want to blame myself, not a stupid computer.

I think it's not e-smith's problem you are not able to control your program

Thor,

It's not the program I can't control. it's the users :-) I suppose I could attach a stun gun to the keyboard that is activated if they change their IMAP preferences, but a cron tab might be easier. ( Stunner is much more appealing though ;-)

LOL

Users should RTFM :-)
Guess they don't know how to purge?

It's not so much they don't know how to purge, they just forget! Alternatively they play about with their IMAP settings and remove the "purge on exit" preference. First thing I usually know is when the HD starts to fill up with deleted mail (some of the users will pick "hide deleted IMAP mail" so they don't know all this mail is there!) Who would be a sysadmin!
