Dial Up
« on: August 08, 2002, 03:58:39 AM »
Ok here's the situation.....

Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop, WinXP, VMWare (v3.1.1) virtual machine running SME v5.5, built-in Lucent LT Win Modem (on COM3 according to windows).

I wish to use the server as a gateway to dial the internet but am not getting much luck when I try "test internet access".

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Cheers. Baronne. /\@@/\

I'm not sure how VMware handles it, but that modem won't work under Linux without some tweaking, if at all. It's called a Winmodem because it requires Windows software to operate, though some people have created Linux software for them...

From http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/5.0/hardwarecat1.html...
Modem (for dialup only) - Only modems that are Linux-compatible may be used. WinModems are not supported.
