Disappearing outlook attachments

This may not be an e-smith problem at all but here goes anyway... On two sites where I have set up e-smith boxes (both now 5.5) acting as email servers there are occasional problems with people using outlook to send email with attachments via the e-smith boxes  and having the emails arrive without the attachments. If they use outlook express there is no problem, if they forward the emails to me (via my e-smith box) there is no problem . The clients are are set up for pop3 as opposed to imap - not that I can see this making any difference? - any suggestions appreciated.

The SME server (version 5.5) mail transport chain doesn't mess with message content at all, other than to add Received and Delivered-to headers at appropriate points as the message is handled.

Depending on the security setting of Outlook, it will strip attachments from messages before sending.  It usually warns you before it does it though.  This is limited to what Outlook considers dangerous attachments like 'exe', 'com', 'vbs', and even 'url'.

Your problem isn't with the Mitel server, it's the MS Outlook client's:

MS Outlook 2K with Service Pack 2 and MS Outlook XP both suffer from MS's draconian "fix" to infected attachments - locking them away from email recipients.

For details see:

To work-around see:

BTW Both sites contain a wealth of MS Outlook information, Woody Leonard's along with a lot of other MS Office & MS Windows material and Sue Mosher's very focused on MS Outlook & MS Exchange.
