Topic: usb error

On boot up on a new installation of 5.5 I get "usb-ohci failed" errors. This is a new machine AMD 1.7mhz with an ASUS motherboard. I have tried BIOS settins "legacy USB" support set to "auto" and "enabled" with no effect on the error. My question is, why the error, and can I just ignore it if I don't use USB peripherals? I would like to use an external USB hard drive (Iomega) for backup. Is this totally out of the question with e-Smith?

Jim,

Check in your BIOS setting for a USB using IRQ and make sure it is set on.  I actually had a USB keyboard I was trying to use which would stop functioning when the usb-ohci started running.  Turned USB using IRQ off caused this usb-ohci to fail as you describe.

For me however this failure allowed my keyboard to keep running.

I haven't tried yet but it maybe worthwhile to turn off all BIOS settings for USB support, then see if your USB devices start working once the usb-ohci has loaded.

I'd like to know what you did to solve this problem.
