e-smith really slow!!!
« on: September 25, 2002, 11:51:50 PM »
Hi everyone!! If somebody knows why suddenly the whole e-smith system got very slow, especially when using the e-smith text based manager. It takes forever to complete tasks which previously took only seconds! I havent been messing with it, so I have no idea what caused this to happen.
Thanks in advance!!!

-Emil-

P.S. Im using e-smith 4.1.2

Are you using RAV antivirus to check your emails?  Just curious....because I had a problem that did the same thing....but it was antivirus related.

Sorry, cant really answer your question. Perhaps you can run top at the command line and see if any processes are running that shouldnt be.

Brad, i am interested in the problem you had with RAV. I have a site that dies after about three days when running ravscan. It starts but wont end, consuming all the memory on the system.

hi brad

ive got a RAV issue -
all seems well BUT
the virus scan (on a 1.7ghz celeron 4)
seems to take so much processing that the serial modem to
the internet drops out.

i found another issue that said to lower the HD interupt
frequency by 'hdparm -u 1 /dev/hda' etc
BEWARE THE HDPARM MAN PAGE WARNS TO POSSIBLE HORRORS WITH THIS!
but i reckon that probably only applies to old systems.

this has improved the access to the serial port (no longer assumes dead after lack of 2 reponses) but still when
RAV kicks in the internet often drops out.

any ideas from your viewpoint would be appreciated.
kind regards RobBrad Jennings wrote:
