Sony IDE AIT-1 Tape Drive
« on: September 30, 2002, 05:07:03 AM »
Hi All,

I'm looking for feedback from anyone out there who have tried using the Sony ATAPI AIT-1 tape drive (SDX420CR) with their SME server(s). It appears to be a good value (although still a little pricey) tape drive which I am hoping to integrate into any future servers that require a tape drive. The SCSI version of the drive is still a fair bit more expensive and so I'm interested in trying to see if the IDE version will work as well or not.

Any comments / feedback will be appreciated.

TIA !

I have used this drive and it works as advertised right out of the box with 5.1.2.

Good luck...

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the quick reply. Don't mean to sound dense but ...

Does this mean you did not need to fine tune flexbackup or any of 5.1.2's config files to get it to work ? Did SME give it an st device name automatically ?

Easy answer.  The two Sony AITs we've used were recognised and worked with the std flexbackup.

Obviously flexbackup is not "flex"able, but as a simple full backup every night solution it works just fine out of the box.
