Second E-Smith box as a backup mail server
« on: October 01, 2002, 06:15:12 AM »
Hi all,  is it possible to setup a second e-smith box (at a different location / IP) as a backup mail server?

Wouldn't it conflict with the primary web site, DNS wise I mean. As the primary site has DNS running with no master DNS specified, but the virtual_domain is using "mydomain.com" for it's DNS entry.

The other question is how do you allow two users with the same user name when you have a virtual domain?
I mean blinky@mysite.com (which is the primary site) and a different user, blinky@the_virtual_domain.com can not seem to exist. When you try to make a new "blinky" account for the user in the virtual_domain.com group it says there is already a user and stops you.

This problem would limit the amount of sites you could host by the user list and that seems wrong - So it must be something I am doing wrong!

Please help,
Blinky.

I don't know too how it is possible to do a backup mailing queue in case of (for example) an internet provider failure. I suppose trying to do a second machine, and use some DNS configurations, you could at least making that the mails arrive at the second server, with a second user config on the second server. If it reflects the first one, all users will then have 2 boxes, one on each server, and the second a "temporary queue" of the first one. But ... how could you re-send mails to the primary mailbox when things goes right ?

Maybe I'm wrong way ... But I'm searching a solution too for using a second "all server backup" (not only mail) by myself in case of temporary internet deconnection by my ISP.

Anybody can help ?
