Qmail fun?
« on: October 11, 2002, 03:26:08 AM »
Hello all, I am having a problem with qmail, I think. I have a SME 5.5 with all the updates set as the domain langs.net.au.  Now from the internal LAN I can send email from user@langs.net.au to other @langs.net.au and to external addresses ( crap@crappy.com) fine. BUT when I send from external to user@langs.net.au nothing happens! What I mean is that it sends fine and doesnt get bounced on the external end, but it never arrives here? So I did a dig on my MX records as I will only be hosting email, not web, I asked my host to change the MX to my local ip, and came up with this:

; <<>> DiG 9.1.3 <<>> mx @ozemail.com.au langs.net.au
;; global options:  printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 38019

Which is fine, so I tryed sending mail to user@mail.langs.net.au and it got bounced with this error message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at langs.net.au.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

:
Sorry. Although I'm listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host,
it isn't in my control/locals file, so I don't treat it as local. (#5.4.6)

Any idea's on why mail addressed to @langs.net.au dissapears into cyberspace and why mail.langs.net.au gets bounced? Whats going on?

Thanks,
