Install Errors - Errrr....
« on: April 11, 2001, 11:11:32 PM »
I have tried 11 times now to get this installed. Each time, with variations is hardware configuration and CD or boot floppy. Every time I get the same sort of problems. The hardware is a P200, 64MEGS, 4.1 GIG WD HD, 2 Compatible NIC's.

I can now get all the way through the install, both with booting from the CD or the Floppy. But when the packages finish installing, it pops up with this error every stinging time.

Traceback (innermost last):
 File "/usr/bin/anaconda", kline 438
in?
 intf.run(todo, test = test)
File
"/var/tmp/anaconda-7.0.1//usr/lib/
 anaconda/text.py", line 1035 in run
rc = apply (step[1](), step[2])
File
"/var/tmp/anaconda-7.0.1//usr/lib/
 anaconda/text.py", line 511 in __call__
 if todo.doInstall():

yada yada yada

todo.py line 1746
fstab.py line 742
iutil.py line 193

and finaly!!!

OS ERROR: [ERRNO 5] Input/output error:
'/mnt/sysimage/mnt/floppy'

Now, the same computer has had RedHat version 5.2, 6.0, and 7.0 all successfully installed as well as CoyoteLinux and Freesco router. The hardware is not the problem. I have seen a few other messages on here similar to this one, but with no working answers.

Any ideas..

Thanks,

Chris

If this is is the error running Nero as suggested in the only response as I write this, then it appears that even e-smith.com can't drive the silly thing.  (The CR-ROM I'm trying to install from is the one sent out by e-smith.com on request - I kind of expected it to work.  I'm certainly not going to be inclined to pay for support if they can't even ship out a working eval CD....)

Anyway, my situation is quite similar - over a half dozen attempts to install e-smith, all fail with the identical message qupted in the message above.  Like that user, my machine has had numerous successfull installs of many other operating systems:  Red Hat 6.2, Mandrake 7.1, Caldera 2.3, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server.  All have installed and run flawlwssly.  Hardware is an E-monster 600, PIII/600, 192 MB RAM, 6.4 GB WD drive, Nvidia TNT2, generic D-link 10/100 enet that everything above has recognized with no problem - about as vanilla as they come.

There is something clearly wrong with the code here - has anyone figured out *why* e-smith fails in this way?  (Even more maddeningly, it seems to fail before fully installing vi, so it's going to be a pain to fix even if it just requires a hack to fix anaconda or whatever...)
