Topic: DVD writer and backup

Hi all
I have sme 5.5 server installed with U2. Raid array set all working fine. I would like to install
a HP 200i DVD writer to backup files on a daily basis
1. is it possible to modify the flexibackup program to write to the dvd instead of a tape drive. If so how?
2. What other method do I use and how do I achieve the correct result still using the DVD writer.

I appreciate any help on this

You could back-up the data to another computer across the network.  Then burn a backup on the other computer.  On mine, it backs-up daily to my 'spare' 60 gig hard drive located on my windows 2000 computer.  Every week or so, I burn a back-up to CD and clear off some of the older back-ups on the 'spare' drive.  You could do the same(I think you can with 5.5 anyway) and burn the backup data to a DVD.

Are your backups automated or manual?, if they are automated, how have you achieved this, batch job in the cron.daily directory?

I have asked this question before, but didn't get an userable answer, and it sounds as if you have overcome my problem, of automatically backing up to a shared directory on the windows machine.  i.e at 1:00am in the morning, the SME server backs up to the desktop machine, and emails the admin account the success/fail result.

Can you please explain how you acheived this?

A friend of mine wrote a dandy Win application that does these backups, full or differential, manual or scheduled, files or compressed archives, and it works nicely from an SME server to a Win box with spare storage. And you can have multiple config files that do all kinds of things throughout the day and night.
