How do I share an HP OfficeJet G Series Printer!!!!!
« on: November 19, 2002, 03:11:37 PM »
Hi all,

I have an SME 5.5 Server in a small workgroup enviroment. There is a mixture of macintosh and win2k/winXP in our enviroment! The problem that I am sitting with is that I have an HP Officejet G85 Printer and I am unable to install it on the SME server so that the rest of the office can access it.

I used server-manger to install the printer locally (lpt1), after-which I installed the printer on the workstations, but the worksations did not want accept the printer.

Is it possible to set up an all-in-one printer such as this and if so what are the correct steps for doing this on a macintosh and win2k/winXP.

Thanks
Ashley

I have already searched the forums for anything on printing and found stuff, but none of this worked, because of the kind of HP printer that it is!

Thanks again

My guess is no*. You should be able to configure it for basic printing functionality, but not any of the fancier "all-in-one" features, like scan, fax, etc.

May not help but my Officejet all-in-one 635 works with a deskjet 600 (color) driver obviously scanning and faxing are defunt.

By now I have tried pretty much tried everything and still not got it to work. I have accepted the fact that the all-in-one features will not work through the server, but I still need to get the printer part working!

Thanks

Ashley,

I have a G95 shared throught a NT4 server.  I had to put the G95 on an external HP Jet Direct box which gives the printer an IP address on the network.  The NT server uses JetDirect Software to print to the printer.

With the jetdirect box, I think, but I have not tried it, that you could install the G95 software onto a computer and tell it to use LPT1 during the install (do not print a test page).  Once the install of the G95 software is done, change the port for the G95 to an IP port or the shared printer on the NT server (port).

Unfortunately, the HP Jet Direct boxes are expensive.

Good Luck,

Ryan

You could set it up locally on either an nt server or one of the workstations and share it.

Check out this site I believe the instructions are present.  I've gotta give this a try myself, with a HP PSC 2210.  Goodluck, hope this helps.
