Yes it should be the same (you can change it but, is not the way it's suposed to work)
Reasons to change it? maybe because with dyndns service you can't have a realy FQDN you always get a domain name that is a subdomain of dyndns so you have to name your server this way
"yourdomain.dyndns.org" or something alike

dyndns org will point directly to your primary domain you can ad virtual domains at will with e-smith, and access them this way from the internet: "virtualdomain.yourdomain.dyndns.org"

to receive mail you'll need to arrange some things more.
I'm not sure if it's the best way but it works for me
(the reason to use Dyndns services si that you have a dynamic ip address)
I use my own domain name registered with any registrar who ask me to point to any dns service provider, as you are "moving" from one ip to another you need to point to a fixed one, dyndns doesnt accept that kind of requests so recomends to use in that case a service:
www.granitecayon.com (free), to make the adminitration of the ZONE (in the zone you can specify the ways your server could be reached, mail is one of that ways)
(there is a good example and a bbs well served there)
so from granite canyon you point your name "homeip.net" to dyndns.org where your name could be "homeip.dyndns.org" where it's pointed to your updated ip ....But to manage mail you will need to keep your original registered name in your e-smith server, and make a change in a file (*) to keep the dyndns upgrade process,
I repeat, I'm really not sure this is the best way, but it works great.
The problem could be that you will be doing many hops betwen servers with many unreachable people, software or hardware (too many variables out of control) so the really best way (I think) would be an arrange with your isp to manage your zone (most of isps do this for free) and to keep a mx backup server to receive and hold your mail while you are offline
(I'm in that process right now)
(*)/sbin/e-smith/dynamic-dns/dyndns.org
