Topic: SME 5.6 and unresolved symbols .../ppp_generic.o

After installing SME 5.6 I get this error during startup:

Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18-5-e-smith/kernel/drivers/net/ppp_generic.o

While trying to resolve dependancies.

Has anyone ran into this before.  I'm thinking it has something to do with this 3Ware escalade 7000 card.  When I install with out the card I don't get the error.  And when installing SME 5.5 I get the same error but a different module "mega-ide.o" or something very similar to that.  Is it a memory allocation issue during boot up?  I'm confused as to how to fix this.

J'ai moi aussi un probleme avec ce module : j'essaye de mettre en place une connexion PPP over ATM et lorsque j'essaye de charger le module /lib/modules/2.4.18-5/kernel/net/atm/pppoatm.o, je recois un message unresolved symbol pour ce ppp_generic.o.

A quoi sert ce repertoire de modules 2.4.18-5-e-smith ? Y a t'il un risque a le supprimer pour que ce soit /lib/modules/2.4.18-5/kernel/drivers/net/ppp_generic.o qui soit pris en compte ?

I submitted this as a bug also. I’ve now ran into this on two configurations.  It seems to relate to IDE RAID cards.  I’ve tried it with the HighPoint 372 and 3Ware Escalade 7000.  After the install of SME 5.6 each bootup there after reports this error while trying to resolve dependencies:

Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18-5-e-smith/kernel/drivers/net/ppp_generic.o

This error only happens when I’m trying to use one of those two RAID controllers.  On a separate box with only one drive I did not get this error.
