Adding extra SME Servers (& visible externally)
« on: January 22, 2003, 01:08:02 PM »
I am trying to connect extra Mitel SME servers on my network, but also make them visible to the internet. Here is my network details. If nobody is prepared to "offer" advise, I will consider paying to get this working.

***********************************************************************************
Mitel SME server 5.5 in Server/Gateway mode (will upgrade to 5.6 soon)
Connected to Internet with Netcomm 56K V.90 Modem using Telstra Direct Modem Account (Static IP)
Connected to LAN with Netgear FA310TX NIC & 8 port Netgear 10/100 Switch
Client PC's x 3 on LAN with DHCP assigned IP addresses from SME Server

Configuration of Mitel SME server 5.5
Local IP address / Subnet mask: 192.168.135.1/255.255.255.0
External IP address / Subnet mask: 139.130.141.21/255.255.255.192
Gateway: 139.130.60.65
This server is working fine, with around 11 domain names hosted.
I requested extra IP addresses from my ISP, and got this response:

You have been assigned 16 IP addresses .
The network you have been allocated is 203.58.252.160/28
The range of addresses are 203.58.252.160 - 203.58.252.175
- 203.58.252.160 is the network address (all zeros);
- 203.58.252.175 is the broadcast address (all ones);
The SUBNET mask for this network is 255.255.255.240.

Telstra have routed this address range to my original static IP (139.130.141.21)
All I want to do, is add other Mitel SME servers that are visible to the Internet.
Can anybody advise how I go about achieving this ? (ie. Is the routing correct, does an extra SME server require 2 NIC's, can I use 1:1 NAT rpm, what actual steps do I need to perform to get this happening)

Any help is much appreciated.

The solution was very simple.

Installed SME 5.6 on my second server. Set as server only, gave it an internal IP, and set gateway & DNS to point to my primary SME 5.1.2 server. Then I used NAT 1:1 rpm contibution from Abe Loveless, followed his instructions, and all working. Both servers visible to internet.
