Topic: upgrade to 5.6 causing samba error

after upgrading from 5.5 to 5.6, i cannot connect to my server shares using samba, ftp, or secure shell. telnet still works however. The samba log shows this every time I try to make a connection to a share;

lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) read_data: read failure for 4.

has anyone else had this problem?
