Sony IDE AIT-1 Tape Drive
« on: February 12, 2003, 03:10:51 PM »
Hi all,

Hope someone can help me on this.

I have a new SME 5.6 server setup with a Sony IDE AIT-1 Tape drive (setup as secondary Master with a CD-ROM as Secondary slave).

dmesg shows that the drive is recognised at hdc and the CDROM at hdd.

However, tape backups isn't working as the server keeps saying no tape is loaded.

How do I check if the tape drive is being recognised and configured correctly (eg. how do I know st0 and nst0 are referring to the right device, etc) ?

The tape drive is recognised and works "out of the box" with SME 5.1.2 without any hassles so I am rather surprised that it did not work with 5.6.

TIA !

I've done a bit more testing. It appears that if I boot the server with no tape in the drive, I get this problem even though the tape IS loaded in the drive.

However, if there is a tape loaded in the drive at boot time, then backups work.

Any ideas on how to fix this ?
