Hylafax howto
« on: March 09, 2003, 12:15:01 AM »
Hello,

I tried to install hylafax on a sme 5.6.

Used Rick Sulmans howto, didn't work
Used the howto and rpm from myezserver, didn't work

I am doing something wrong....
searched the forum so do not tell me to do that please cause I did search
trying to get it to work for more than a month now....

All I want is to receive (and maybey send but that will most be done by a analog fax)

I realy get confused after installing and configuring the faxserver, faxgetty ? faxmodem? and how to configure it.

I think for a Newbie like me it is hard to install some thing like hylafax.
Is there some other prog for it easyer to use?

Tanx in advance.

I have hylafax on my server and it works great.

Thanx Lloyd,

Followed your document but some how the modem won't pick up.
When it receives a call I see the rx/tx lights flash but it won't answer.

I also tried to send a fax with WHC and it doesn't send the fax.
How do I send a fax as an pdf atchment?

Is faxgetty running and is it running on the right port.

Run faxstat from a terminal and you should get something like

HylaFAX scheduler on faxserver.mydomain.com: Running
Modem ttySx (000-123-4567): Running and idle

You can use minicom to talk to the modem to at least make sure you can connect to it.

[root@server root]# faxstat
HylaFAX scheduler on server.smitti.mine.nu: Running
Modem ttyS0 (685519): Running and idle

And I can talk with the modem with minicom.

Also tried to turn auto answer on but that didn't work.
I don't get any error's anymore modem is working and i am gettin crazy.

Please Help!

What modem are you using ?
You should first look at the modem configutation repository at :
http://hyla.xtremeweb.de/cgi-bin/hyla/hylaeng.pl
and look if yours is documented.
If it is the case, download the config file and edit your config.ttySO and put the modem part you downloaded into it in replacement of the one you have now. Then retry.

If it does not work, try this :
connect with minicom to your modem and call your line. Look if you see the 'ring' on your screen, it might be that your modem signals ring a way that is not recognized by hylafax.

Have a look at the archives of the hylafax mailing lis on hylafax site anyway.

hope this helps.
