securemail problems

Hi all,

I just installed Damiens new version of e-smith securemail and configured in webpanel access for smtp from public network for both plain and ssl. When accessing the smtp server from public - which I should not do without ssl, I know : )  - via standard smpt I still get the message "sorry, receipent not in my list of allowed..." althoug this sholud not occur because of the implemented authentication. When I switch my mailclient (eudora) to ssl, it works fine. I captured the network connection - > communication uses port 465.
Outlook 2000 works aswell as described in ssl mode but not without ssl using userauth (same result as eudora)
When I use Outlook 2002 there's no success in using smtp via ssl. I choose port 465 as described but the server seems not to answer. Outlook gets an timeout.

So in total 2 problems:

1) smtp without ssl but userauth. is not working as expected at all with any client tested
2) Outlook 2002 (included in officeXP) seems not to work with the ssl connection.

Any ideas on that? Has anyone experienced problems with outlook2002 aswell?

My users use all these treee kind of client progs and especially a few of them would need to use the smtp with authentication feature.

regards, Stefan

I am using SME 5.6 U2, with Damiens securemail packages, and I get the opposite problem from you. I have set as "SMTP or SMTP over SSL". Setting to "SMTP over SSL only (recomended)" does not allow an SSL connection.

1. SMTP connection without SSL - works with no problems.
2. SMTP over SSL (ports 465 & 995) - I get error message your describe.

Browse to http://yourserver.com:995/ and make sure that the certificate is installed. If you use mail.yourserver.com or something else, it may give problems due to the name not matching. I know Outlook Express complains each time if you don't use the exact same hostname...

It works fine for me on 5.5U3, both inside and outside the LAN.
