Topic: PortForwarding Problem

I have installed dmc-mitel-portforwarding-0.0.1-5.noarch.rpm on SME 5.5

I have set up portforwarding on a number of ports to no avail

For example I have set port 110 on the external interface to the exchange server on the internal network. I know that it is not a router config problem as without portforwarding enabled I can connect to the SME pop3 server

Portforwarding appears to work as I get the following from the console

[root@tux root]# ipmasqadm portfw -l
prot localaddr            rediraddr               lport    rport  pcnt  pref
TCP  192.168.1.2          192.168.0.2              pop3     pop3    10    10

however it simply times out when i try from externally. Same applies for WWW

I've heard there are problems with the new packetfilter..

Try installing the old version available here:

He's using 5.5, those problems are only with 5.6.  
It sounds like you are trying to forward ports which also have local services running on them, I don't think you can do that.
Try stopping the services www, qmail and obtusesmtp, then try your port forwarding test, it may just work.

What he said. I believe I helped someone else here with the same issue. Port forwarding wasn't working because a local service was using that port...

I am pretty certain I haven't had to do this in the past but thought i'd give it a go.

Was not sure how to turn off the pop server in SME so i used the services add in for sme

Still get the same timeout i am afraid
