Mike,
I had exactly the same problem. I discovered that the configuration file (/home/e-smith/configuration) had the easydns information entered into the "dyndns" entry, but the "dnsaccount" and "dnspassword" entries were not being set correctly - those are the variables that the easydns script uses. Try setting those entries to the correct values manually - it worked for me. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can explain why those entries are not being set correctly in the first place.
