Since Upgrade3 no printer access

Hi there

I have just installed the Update3 and shortly  thereafter the shared printer has disappeared. Has this got something to do with the fact that Samba has been upgraded?

Thanks
Ashley

I presume you have done:

rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

Many changes to Samba require it to be shutdown & restarted for them to become active - this can be acheived by starting and stopping the service manually or more simply just restarting the server.

Hi there

Just thought I would post an update to the problem - It looks like it is the HP Jetdirect device that is giving trouble, but I can not be certain. The jetdirect device is connected to the network and the the Printer is added via server-manger. The Connection problems only started after Update 3 was installed, I am not sure if there is a connection between the two, but I will continue to monitor the situation and report feedback.

Thanks for the response Graeme and yes I did do just what you suggested, so that rules that out.

Cheers
Ashley

I have the same problem and resolved it so:

rm /var/cache/samba/printing.tdb

Now my printeris ok ( XEROX Docuprint 4512 on the network )

Hi Laurent

Why did you remove that file and what are the consequences of doing so?

Thanks for the input

After deleting the file ( /var/cache/samba/printing.tdb ) restart the smb service and the file will be recreated.
