send mail error
« on: April 21, 2003, 05:02:25 PM »
Hi,

The error appears while i trying to send email by using the email client program such as like the outlook express, however, i can use webmail to send to any hosts...

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'enquiry@ivenue.com. Subject 'Re: WAP001, WAP002 - LevelOne Wireless LAN Access Point', Account: 'plab.ath.cx', Server: 'mail.pathlab.ath.cx', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Where does it goes wrong? Please help.

Thank you,
Daley

Is the client on the SME's LAN? It gives that error when neither the sender nor the recipient are on the SME's local network... "Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts."

Then you're trying to relay mail. You're sending it from domain A (myisp.net) through domain B (mysme.com) to domain C (theirisp.net). That's not allowed because anyone would be able to send any mail they wanted from your server (aka "open relay").

Install Damien Curtain's SASL contrib at pagefault.org to add authentication to the SMTP server. This will let only authenticated users send mail with your SMTP server.

is it the pop before smtp? my existing email client over the internet are always using the isp smtp to send email, pop3 is to receive their own server.

after configurated the pagefault.org SASL, but still fail... Server Response: '553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts.'.....

Thank you.

Yes, I get the same error.  If you establish a PPTP session and then use the internal IP address, you can send.   But even user accounts on that server cannot use SMTP on the external interface.
