Is there anyone out there that know how to fix the transports on Jabber ie, msn, icq, aol etc ?

I think you will find more answers to that by exploring some of the Jabber sites such as:

although the admin guide doesn't have much to say beyond pointers to the gateways:

  http://www.jabber.org/admin/componentadminguide.html#gateways

The main issue, as I understand it, is that AOL continues to keep constantly trying to block external connections to its AIM and ICQ services, so even when the Jabber gateway developers are able to make their transport work, AOL then changes things so that those gateways no longer work.

I'm told the MSN gateway is more stable.

Thanks for the info but I installed the it using the rpm for e-smith.  I am also new at linux and would not know how to install those gateways.
I am sure there must be someone using the gateways successfully on the e-smith box.

Try checking the Jabber User guide.  If you wish to use transports other than Jabber, you can add Gateways at the Client level (I have tested this and added MSN to my Jabber client)
