Printer Que

Ever since I upgraded to 5.6 I've seen some different things with the printer que. It's happening on more than one of my machines. What happens is even after the job has printed it is visable in the Windows client and doesn't disappear for days. Not all of the printed jobs do this. I even installed the Print Que management into the Server Manager to get a handle on this and those pesky hang around print jobs show up there too.

What I've seen is on Win 2000 client machines, all printers going through the SME 5.6 server say, under status: "Access denied, unable to connect".

I've set up a "50printers" template snippet to change smb.conf so that "guest ok = yes" in case there is a permission problem.

Didn't see this under <5.6. Curious part of this is:

1. Doesn't happen with Win9x clients;
2. On Win2K clients, you can still print, despite the message
3. If the job succeeds, the Win queue goes away; if the job does not succeed, you can't get into it to cancel the job.

Have seen identical symptoms on two networrks, so I assume this isn't spurious.  I post this because it is similar, and may be related to your problem.

Thanks for the info Tom. Just to clearify the problem. The printing goes through and prints ok it just stays in the Print Que as completed for days on end. It doesn't happen all the time just some times. Does happen more with Computers that aren't logged in so you little snippet may help a bunch. The only problem I've had with computers not printing at all is on XP Haunting Version --- Ops I ment XP Home Version. These computers are not printing at all or print a few pages and then quit. When they do print for a time they usually show up in the print que as quest.

Stan
Have a look at this thread
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=16440.msg63619#msg63619

Sounds just like your problem.
I have had some dialogue with Mitel bugs but so far there has been NO definitive answer.
What printer brand/models are you running, how may printers do you have connected to the sme box ?

Yes Ray my problem is almost exactly the same as those described in the other thread. To bad my search of this forum didn't find that thread. We could have posted all coments in the same place. Only difference that I noted from that thread is that I'm having more problems with XP (Home Version - Ug!) than I am with 9X machines.The 9X machines at least print the XP machines only print one or two pages before hanging. All machines will leave finished jobs in the Print Que once in a while. Doesn't seem to be any ryhme or reason as to why they get removed sometimes and other times they don't. If they don't get removed I have to do it manual through the Printer Administraion panel I added to the Server-Manager.

I have one HP Laser Jet III attached. I'm going to try Tom Keisers solution later today. Wish me luck.
