Can someone rescue me please.

I need a rescue floppy, but the one created when I installed has died.

Can anyone advise how to recreate another ? Or is it the same as the boot disk image and if so how do use it as a rescue disk ?

server manager-administration-create reinstall disk

this disk will have your configuration info on it also, so if you need to reinstal from this disk, you won't need to enter the basic config details again

Thanks Ray.

Bit of a bummer as the machine will not boot at the minute so I have no way of creating one.

Will make sure I make a couple and that they work this time !

You can make a boot floppy from the CD on a windows workstation see
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/
and
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/Boot_floppy_howto.php3

You should really have a read of ALL the links on the e-smith.org site, there is a lot of useful information there.

Ray,

Sorry, but I did read around first. I made a boot floppy off the CD. But it is just an install floppy and not, as far as I can see, a rescue one.

I think that the rescue floppy that the install generates (and is generated from your command that you supplied) is a bit different, having enough additional information to boot a running server (there are various posts with people using a boot floppy to get past lilo).

Yes they are different, but now you have a boot floppy at least you can start your server up and then get to a login prompt (follow those other threads you mentioned) and hopefully fix the problem that is stopping it from starting up normally. Perhaps that's a subject for a new post.

Could you give some specific detail as to what state your server is in, it's a bit hard to offer advice about how to get it going again if no information is given. Is it stuck during the boot process, any error messages etc? A bit of info could go a long way here.

Thanks for the comments.

Rick, I have a separate thread on the actual disk problem.

This was sort of related, but more generalised - it would have been a useful thing to know whether the 'rescue' disk created during the install was recreatable, and if it could be done without the server actually running.

Rays earlier answer indicates you can create another disk, but apparently only when the server is up.
