Port Forwarding on 5.6 only works to certain servers
« on: May 07, 2003, 06:02:32 AM »
I have recently upgraded to 5.6.  I installed the port forwarding module and it was working fine.  I am port forwarding 4899 for Remote Admin to my NT server.  It worked for a while and now I get an error "cann't connect to the server."  If I port forward to another server in the environment I can connect to it.  I can then connect from the second server back to the first server through the internal network.  I have 2 friends that are experienceing the same issues once they installed 5.6.  One was a format and start clean install and the other was an upgrade from 5.1.2 I think.

Anyone know why port forwarding woukd work to some machines and not others on the same subnet?

Remote admin seems to have some quirks!   We've got a site we cannot connect to after 8pm and can't figure out why, the NT user account is all hours! And we are NOT using NT security anyway!

Are you sure you don't have a hung server session on the Remote admin server?  Also, did pcAnywhere or whatever start up on that machine?

When I installed Remote Admin on an NT, the 'install as server' script failed the first time, so the RA service worked until a reboot!  Reinstalling it a second time plus a reboot worked.  I suspect PC Anywhere had not unloaded on my first attempt!

Mike,

I am sure it is not a hung session or anything to do with the reboot.  As I said I also have 3 other friends having similar issues with it.  I will try to explain them all.

Situation 1.  I installed RA.  It worked fine for 2 months even after I upgraded to SME 5.6.  1 week after the installation of SME 5.6 I can no longer port forward RA or VNC to the nt server.  I can connect to the server from the instide with both VNC and RA.

Situation 2.  Had RA up and running for months.  formated the old SME 5.1.2 server and installed 5.6 clean.  Can no longer port forward to NTserver 1 but can port forward to NTserver 2.  Can then connect to NTserver1 from NTserver2.

Situation 3.  Had RA running for weeks.  Upgraded from SME 5.1.2 to 5.6 and immedately could no longer RA into the NT server from an external source.  Can still connect to RA from the inside.

I hope that helps.  Is there anyoue out there who knows how to fix this issue?

Thank you.  Tim Taylor
