SIS900 Onboard LAN not work in SME 5.5
« on: May 23, 2003, 04:41:15 PM »
Hi all,

I have a booksize PC that use SIS900 on board LAN and install SME 5.5 and select default sis900.o LAN driver. The eth1 (this LAN port) cannot enable to run. Issue the command "server network restart" and get the message "Delaying eth1 initialization  [FAIL]" return from system. Can anyone give me a hint where I can find the driver sis900.o for SME 5.5? Or if it a source driver file, would you show me the compilation steps in order to generate the LAN driver file? TIA.

Regards,
Frank

Hi all,

There are typing mistake. The command to restart network should be "service network restart".

eth0 should be the lan and eth1 is the connection to the net. Sounds like eth1 is looking for a dhcp server thats not there? More info would be helpful.

Hi all,

Thanks for your information. But the problem is due to incorrect driver module sis900.o for SME 5.5. It is neither eth1(or eth0) nor wrong driver loading (assume the driver is correct in SME 5.5 kernel). Since there is only one PCI slot in the motherboard (booksize PC) and has been used for Intel 10/100 PCI NIC, I cannot get rid of sis900 onboard NIC. Does anyone has sis900.o driver? I tried to compile sis900.c downloaded from Internet sites but fail to load into SME 5.5. TIA.
