I do not want to use it for logins, just filename support. Samba croaks (dies) on any file with hanzi in the filename. So if someone even looks at a file (but does not have it in their profile) it will cause the system to come undone because windows keeps a "recent used" list.
Office also keeps such a list.
So I had to disable many features, turn on failsafe logins (if a prob - do not allow login) and many other settings. Which ultimately are all well and good in their own right.
However if one user saves one file with hanzi...... or right clicks in windows to create a new file/folder/etc while using Chinese windows - it will also croak as the default name is not "New Folder" but is hanzi.
The market here for SME is just bristling. Companies like mcsb.com are ripe to have their market share eroded. And the current pricing for Mitel is cheaper than they are for their more fragmented system or just support with no vertical integration of product, support and add ons.
I am actually keen to do full Chinese localisation for SME, the server manager, install and samba. I was told that a newly released samba fixed the Chinese issue? Hence my question on SME 6b1.
I would like to investigate samba more - but the archive server is censored so I need to jump through a few hoops to access many sites as I am sure the whole world knows why. Again why I asked here - hoping for an answer without having to start jumping.
What thought have you given to full localisation of SME?
I have many friends and gifted coders and Linux mates here from China telecom and work. I also know people in our LUG (
http://www.beijinglug.org/) who are serious Linux developers for Nokia, Motorola and other tech companies and most of us are bilingual to differing degrees.
Cheers,
Richard.
