Topic: how to repair pear?

Hi all,

As told many times by Dan and others 'fooling' around with php will cause problems with either pear or IMP.

Now I have this old server that I played with and I want to dig into repairing the pear installation (so I know what to do on a production machine).

I've checked php.ini and the include path is correct. Also the pear libs are in place (/usr/share/pear). But no go....

Can anybody shine a light on how pear and php work together and what is needed to get it back up?
