Outlook email error with SME 5.6

Here is what I am trying to do. My email add is bjohn@myesmith.com my account name is of course bjohn. When I set up my outlook connection I pick IMAP. For user name I put bjohn and the password. For pop and smtp I put the ip address of the server. I have tried the host name as well. Mail.myserver.com. I then get this error.

Task’mail: folder: Inbox Check for new mail: reported error (0x800CCC0E): Could not fetch new headers in the folder inbox for account mail: unable to connect to server.

Do any of you know what this might be?

I have the same message, but on my SME 5.5 box. And I didn't found anything who might explain this ...

If someone has a quick fix ...

Have you set email to public?  To see if your server is listening on IMAP you could:

telnet mail.myserver.com 143
1 login
1 list ""
1 logout

If you fail to connect this means that TCP 143 (IMAP) isn't open, either due to hosts.allow or a firewalling rule.

Not sure if I can help.

But just for info, which ever protocol you use, IMAP or POP3, you should be able to download and read your mails.

Under the server-manager -> Other email settings, please make sure that IMAP and POP access is public if you are using it externally.

For the configuration of either Outlook or Outlook express.

For those who have firewalls installed, please make sure that your ports are opened.

For those who can only use either Outlook or Outlook Express, please toggle around using the IMAP or POP protocol.

If you are using IMAP, please make sure that if you are using WU-IMAP, leave the "root folder" as blank and if you are using COURIER-IMAP, please add "INBOX" without the quote in the blank.

Hope that helps and not make things even more confusing.
