Dialup configuration, possible ?
« on: May 24, 2001, 04:03:25 AM »
I have a cable modem that uses the com-port/dialup as a login.
When I config e-smith it will not connect.
It is supposed to be configured just like a normal dialup modem.

Now what I think that it is, is that the initialisation string is invalid.
The only command it should give is ATZ and ATDT4 (4 is the number to call)
Is there a method to change this because I saw in the config files some other initialisation strings.

Thanks,

Norman

Yep,

You have to change 2 files in the directory
/etc/e-smith/templates/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0: 25init and 30dialup, so that all AT-commands that are unsupported by your cablemodem are removed (ATL0M0 and the "T" after ATD will result in errors, probably). Now change your connection-type (this causes e-smith to rewrite the configuration files and use the templates you just altered) and make sure that the phonenumber you dial is just a "4" and reboot. As you can see in the directory mentioned, the template in 20reset provides the ATZ for initialisation.

Succes,
