reverse lookup, vhost and dns

i got a bunch of questions here, so you guys will bear with me...

first, i just want to ask whats the concept behind the virtual host? is there a howto for configuring the vhost? because i added a virtual host then i tried it out using www.megaproxy.com, but i wasnt able to the ibay that the vhost was pointing. do i need to have more ips? if i already have the ips, what are the steps would i take to make this vhost work?

secondly, is there a contrib howto on how to setup the dns server? i know it is somewhat answered in http://www.e-smith.org/bboard//read.php?f=3&i=34354&t=34354  but i cant find the step-by-step things to do that will help me on this matter. sorry for being a kid for asking this but i really dont know much about this dns stuffs. i just want to host my own domain coz its so expensive to pay a company just park your domain name.

third, i also want to ask for a howto about reverse lookup in e-smith, because i have my own domain and i want it to be my ip/hostname as i go to the internet especially in irc.

thanks. hope you could help with these things.

1st. The vhost concept is : you need to have a DNS entry for your virtual host. e.g. testing.mydomain.com - you have to make sure that the DNS records for 'mydomain.com' contain an entry for 'testing.mydomain.com'. You can't just make a vhost and expect it to work from outside your LAN.

2nd. http://www.sglinuxos.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=3

3rd. Contact your ISP - they own the IP range that you are connecting to the internet on - and only they can change the reverse lookup.
