PLS. HELP ME!!! win98 logon problem
« on: July 27, 2003, 06:16:01 PM »
Have v. 5.6 and very happy with it!
We are a school with 100 users, and 16 win98 workstations.

How can I make the workstations save/read winprofiles in the home directory of each user, thus enabling roaming profiles.

Have looked at logon.bat, but have no idea what to put in there.

Any ideas?

Well, I'm no expter myself and "playing around" with e-smith for a few weeks.

As far as I understand when you login as "admin" to you domain you can access \yourdomain\NETLOGON share and you will find NETLOGON.BAT file.

If you simply remove REMs from the .BAT file the users will be able to save their winprofiles at their home directory.

There is some info at the documentation about this. Good luck.

Yes, that is correct. But I would like to force win98 to save profiles and documents folder on the server. So that when a user logs on to the domain, his/her documents are automatically saved in their home directory on server.

Do you have Roaming Profiles enabled in Server-Manager ---> Workgroup tab?

It's a couple of years since I looked at getting Win98 using Roaming profiles but if I remember correctly you have to do some thing on the Win98 PC itself and not the server.

Probably wrong but check out the Power Tools (TweakUI?) on the MS web site.
