Topic: Updatable LDAP ?

After playing with LDAP for a bit, I can see that it is great for providing the email addresses of users configured on SME, but can it be used as a global address book, updatable by clients?

I'd like to create a workgroup environment, and that kind of functionality is essential.

Ideas?

In theory it's possible, but there's likely a fair bit of work to do to set it up.
You probably need to modify the LDAP schema, and then you need to set up access restrictions, including configuring LDAP to do authentication. Not a trivial exercise. There's plenty of articles about openldap on the web - start at http://www.openldap.org/.
