My 1st installation of the 5.6 server is not as easy as I thought ..... most of it I could acomplish. I can edit the server manager from a host, but whenever I try to go on "myhomepage.com" on the XP host a window opens up and requests to "save or open the ftp dwnload file" ---- thanks for any suggestions

Hello

most likely the name of your home page is not complian with apache's httpd.conf file It may need to be edited to accept the index or start page you are using  you can check by looking at the file name it is trying to download Apache http config file "out of the box"
will only server index.html and index.htm if you have named the "home" page anything else if will try to download it

You can add default.htm or home.htm or whatever to your httpd.conf file and it will correct your problem

hope this helps

Try using another web browser also - http://www.mozilla.org/

This may shed some light on exactly what your desktop is trying to retrieve from your website.
