Remote Browsing of Internet
« on: September 19, 2003, 05:15:06 PM »
My SME (the first one ) is connected to Internet via adsl (PPPoE). This SME is set to server/gateway.  I did installed a switch to share the Internet with another server SME ( server/only ) and I hook up my laptop to that switch also. When I want to do maintenance I dial in from my work place 35 km away to my server only and from there SSH on my server/gateway.  The server only is getting a connection to the Internet with DHCP set in the server/gateway. 192.168.1.65

I would like to be able to dial in my server/only and then get browse the Internet from my office 35 km away.

Our network in the office is very securized and ssh port are blocked.  All traffic are monitored.  By going to a modem access I can maintain my server/only and my server/gateway from a remote place.  This is also helpful if I visit my family in Florida.

They don't have an Internet connection.  By dial in my server only I was hoping to be able to browse the Internet from a remote location.

At this point I did search linux.org, e-smith forum, redhat SuSe linux.  Just can't find anything on this procedure.

I wich to thank you for your help.  It is very valuable.

Regards

Craig

Investigate VPN and see if that's suitable.

Where are a couple of dial-in add-ons available for this. Installing the modem on the server and allowing it to auto answer to incoming call will do poor-mans ISP for you.
Search this forum (all dates) for those contribs.

Hi Boris,

The modem is already set up and aswering.  I just have a shell screen.  This is good for maintenance but I want to browse the Internet from that connection.  Do you know how ?
