Good Morning,

Has anyone looked into the SIF stuff that a lot of schools and other government entities are going to here in the U.S.? I know that the whole state of Oklahoma is requiring it. SIF basically allows the interchange of information between programs. The software may be made by different folks but the export record can be read by all.

I don't know where to look for the SIF requirements and all the other technical details that go with it but I believe that if it could be integrated into SME, it would put a shining star onto SME's resume!

Good Morning,

Ok, here's the information regarding the specifications of SIF compliance: http://www.sifinfo.org/specification.asp

Now, one of the schools that I contract with is becoming SIF compliant this next year. What this means is that they will have one front-end package that handles all the student and teacher information. Example, when a student enrolls, the staff person will input all their information into the SIF compliant software. This information will include all their demographics and such. When that information is put in, I can have it upload this information to a Zone Integration Server (ZIS) on a scheduled basis or real-time. The ZIS server will then pass that information on to other SIF agents for other programs like the lunch and library programs as well as the MS AD domain. In the end, what this means is that I won't have to do anything as it will populate the various programs and domains appropriately. With this said, how would one create a SIF agent that would allow this type of information, totally or in part, to be passed on to SME so that it can populate the user directory and such?

I'm not a programmer but this looks like a great thing that would bring SME to the forefront, I believe, of the Linux server market.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an excellent avenue for the server. I've had a very brief look at the spec and it looks quite feasible, but it's not just an afternoon's work...

Good Afternoon,

I'm to the point of asking for someone to give me a quote on how much it would cost. The quote would need to be broken down into two options:

1. SIF agent to interact with a ZIS server.
2. ZIS server & SIF agent rolled into one for SME.

Later,

Walter "Wally" Padgett

P.S. Yes, I'm going to keep posting updates to this thread to keep it visible because I strongly believe in this issue.
