Missing Modem
« on: September 30, 2003, 08:52:54 AM »
I have an SME box that I just reloaded as 5.6. It's always been 5.6 it just had a hard drive problem that a new drive fixed. When I reloaded it I set it up as a dial up box. Only problem is that it won't find the modem. The modem is external on /dev/ttys0 but it doesn't dial. The modem is the same modem I used during the first installation. When I look at /etc/diald/link it shows an ISDN connection. When I redo the configuration it reinstalls the modem as ISDN even though I've told it to use regualar dial up. Any ideas?

Modem is a Zoom V.92 56K. Don't know what chip set it uses but here's a link to it's spec sheet.

Here's another link to the modem page it self.

One of the regularly forgotten problems with these modems is that they don't work if you connect the incoming line to the output side of the modem.

Been there do that. Checking the phone line was one of the first things I did. However I've learned in the trouble shooting field that some times you need to revisit the simple things. Won't have a chance to try anything new until 10/03 since the server is so far away.

Ops....you can chalk this problem up to an ID10T error. I had an APC UPS on /dev/ttys1 so I figured the modem could only be on /dev/ttys0. Wrong both the UPS and the Modem where on the wrong serial ports.
