Would like to recieve some comments on the use of SATA drives with v.6.0b3..

Is it possible to use SATA drives connected to a motherboard with onboard SATA controllers?? Has anybody tested this?? With Intel ICH5, or other controllers??

Has anybody tested the Raptor drives?? how is the perfomance compared to the best IDE 7200RPM drives/SCSI 10k RPM drives or 15K RPM???

Any experience is appreciated, even tests with Redhat ver.???

Performance is outstanding on the Raptor drives. Two of them in raid 0 or four of them in raid 10 will be 20% faster than a 15Krpm SCSI drive, by my measurements.

I have been able to run them using Xandros Linux on a variety of SATA controllers, but on SME only the 3ware controller works. They have a new 2 channel Sata raid controller, and a 4-channel. I've been able to buy the 4-channel, but couldn't find anyone selling the 2-channel yet.

Definitely a best buy.
