Browsing LAN on VPN

I am able to connect to from off-site to my SME 6 fine and am able to browse the SME but I can't browse any other machines.  I tried adding the other machines to the "network" with this names and IPs.  Is this possible to do? Thanks.

Hi,

make sure you have the WINS server set up correctly in you external client. I believe this is often the cause of the problem you describe.

Hope this works for you.

How exactly should it be setup?  I have used VPN connections to Windows 2000 servers and I don't need to setup any WINS servers on each client.

I am assuming you are using SME as gateway? You have several M$ clients that you want to be able to browse and at least one external client that uses VPN to get to the local network. The only client that needs WINS setup is the external client. This worked for me in the past even though the internal clients did not have WINS settings that pointed to the server.

So set your external client to use WINS server i.e. the SME and that should I believe work. Unless someone more knowledgeble wishes to enlighten us maybe you can try this and see if it works. ;-)

Just a thought, and sorry of it is obvious, but have you got sharing correctly enabled on the network machines ?

Putting the correct WNS Settings helps, but sometimes it may take a little while for the machines to appear.

You can go the machines immediately by typing \x.x.x.x straight into explorer.

try START > RUN > \

when the window displaying the remote pc's shares opens, use the "up" icon on the toolbar to take you "up" to the network level, you will see all network pc's on the other site.
