Printer / Cups / Domain

Ok, I've setup a SME 6.0b3 machine with CUPs installed, works like a charm.

It authenticates off a Windows NT4 machine to see if you can browse through the shares etc...

I was mainly wanting it to be a Printer server, so I've setup a printer on it.....but when printing it asked for a password, because the user isn't in the User accounts section.

I can fix this by turning Guest Printing to yes, in smb.conf, and it works fine....

But now it just displays the username 'public' in cups, it would be nice to display the actual user that is printing.....

Anyone have any thoughts....? I just want the printer to Authenticate off the domain rather than itself....

Thanks

Robert

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that CUPS doesn't care about domains and such. It attributes the print job to the user that samba authenticated. If samba says the user who submitted the job is 'public', then CUPS will attribute the job to 'public'. In other words, if your problem can be solved, it will have to be solved in samba.
