Adding WLAN NIC to SME 6.0

Hello,

event though similar topics have been discussed in this forum several times no usable answer is there so far.

The task is to install a wireless NIC in the SME6 and use it as a local network interface. The NIC is a prism2 based PCI card

What has been done so far:
- the prism2 driver has been compiled into the system
- the wlan0 interface has been added

Pings can be sent from the local network to wlan0.

Borwsing the Internet, using SSH or accessing the web-manager is not possible. As far as known today this is due to the firewall settings of SME6. Even though IPTABLES is used I couldn't find the configuration file on the server and also there seem to be no templates for the firewall configuration where the according rules can be added. When I turn off the firewall I can access all services behind it.
Also it has not been possible to use DHCP for this interface so far. This requires the addition of an additional DHCP domain in the templates.

Question: has anybody else made experience with this type of setup and how have the issues been solved there?

Thank you inadvance,

C.T.

This may be a dumb question, but why are you putting the  wireless card in the SME box if you plan to share the SME connection?

Seems to me for similar dollars, you'd get better performance by using a wireless router/hub whatever, use a wired connection to the SME box from the hub,  and wireless for the mobile users.    That is how I do home users who don't want to break walls to run cables, much faster for the wired machines, and more secure too.

Just a thought !

Have you been successful yet?
I'd also like to run another local interface for not fully trusted wireless connections. I want to have a transparent proxy and traffic analysis.
